“AI won’t take your job, somebody using AI will take your job.” — economist Richard Baldwin, the 2023 World Economic Forum’s Growth Summit.
That sounds scary as hell. We have to adopt a new technology again? We just got used to the Internet.
We’re a bit slow to get used to things, don’t you think? Now is your opportunity to embrace change faster and transform your results.
The problem most people have with AI.
It seems like Chat GPT still isn’t up to par — so most of us are like, why bother?
“It’s very, very easy to be skeptical of new technologies. At first, they seem like a toy with limited utility. But, what’s critical to understand is that EVERY transformative technology seems like a toy at first. For more on this pattern, read famous investor Chris Dixon’s classic essay, The next big thing will start out looking like a toy.” — Michael Simmons
This means even if you have adopted AI in your work process, chances are you’re underestimating it.
You’re playing with it.
You’re not giving it enough information to work with.
You’re not all in — you try and quit when you get disappointed
“The single most important thing to understand about AI is how fast it is moving.” — Dario Amodei, CEO of prominent AI company Anthropic (creator of Claude), speaking to the Senate The Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, and the Law
The big picture is scary.
Luckily, you don’t have to worry about the big picture. Because what good will worrying do?
If there’s one single thing you can do today to start adjusting to the new reality & be among the first who start to work smarter — it’s time to learn how to incorporate ChatGPT in your work, starting right now, with small steps.
Don’t be scared: 7 ways ChatGPT can help you grow your business
Decision making.
“Three phases characterize well-informed decisions. First, we must define our goals and context. The second step is to develop choices: What decision-making options are available to us? The goal here is to generate many different alternatives and not, as is all too often the case, to focus just on the obvious options. Only when we have developed sufficient options from the decision-making framework can we evaluate them and make a well-informed decision in a third step.
Used skillfully, ChatGPT can already provide valuable services in all three phases for business decisions in its current training state.” — Harvard Business Review
Not sure what to prioritize in your solo business? Not sure how to best use the limited time you have?
ChatGPT can be surprisingly effective in the decision-making process, especially in stage two, suggesting ideas you wouldn’t think of yourself.
Not to mention that the whole process of supported decision-making is like having an AI coaching session. You’ll define goals, priorities, time-frames, and limitations, and in doing so, you’ll understand your own situation better.
Stats analysis.
Here’s a crazy story for you. Last week, I made a few screenshots of my Substack stats and asked ChatGPT to analyze them and suggest strategies for improving my open rates.
It did GREAT! It suggested specific strategies for best-performing subject lines, topics and even days on which to send my newsletters.
And yes, it did it only from a few screenshots — I didn’t even have to export anything.
If you want to analyze your numbers, AI can do wonders for you.
Here’s a short snippet of its analysis:
“Based on the analysis, the most important factor seems to be “Use Specific Numbers and Quantifiable Benefits” in your headlines. This pattern consistently appears in the top-performing posts and has a significant impact on attracting readers.”
Market research.
Part of my premium copywriting service includes review research. This refers to going through hundreds of reviews of the given or competitive products. I’m looking for patterns and specific words people use over and over to talk about their problems or solutions.
This then helps you write sales copy that matches the customers’ inner monologue.
Even though I’ve used other AI tools before, this research took me ages and with ChatGPT, it can happen in minutes.
You can also use it for competitors analysis — I’ll show you how in Prompt Builder you’ll find at the end of this post.
Brainstorming new products
I’m a big fan of micro-products.
I build micro-products & I buy micro-products.
Micro-products are usually under the $50 price mark. They help people solve a specific problem rather than achieve their dreams from A to Z.
Example:
Imagine a product that’s about success on Fiverr: mastering the platform, earning big money, etc. Such a course would cost, say, $200, and most people who buy it won’t finish it.
My Fiverr Launcher course helps you launch your profile & first few gigs so you can get your first order within a week.
It’s a $39 course, and I know you’ll make that back from that first order (and more).
I can’t promise you you’ll make the money I’ve made on Fiverr ($240K). Instead, I promise you this one tiny result that could be the first step to something great.
The one problem with micro-products is that you need an entire library of them to be able to earn a good income. So what courses to create? Use ChatGPT and you’ll get endless ideas.
Find better words, metaphors or idioms.
I know most of you are writers and get offended when someone suggests Chat GPT for as much as proofreading.
But you need to understand how amazing this tool is for finding synonyms, slang, metaphors or idioms to help make your writing more powerful.
Just copy a word/sentence/paragraph and ask ChatGPT to give you different options: give me a slang way to say this; give me a visual way to say this; give me a metaphor for this; give me an idiom for this.
Generate more headline ideas.
Note, I DO NOT recommend that you outsource headline writing entirely.
If you’re a writer, headline writing should be a visceral skill. The only way to get there is to write A LOT of headlines yourself.
That being said, ChatGPT can give you the most powerful headline templates online, suggest headline ideas for your piece, rewrite them a million ways to match your voice, and spark ideas you wouldn’t consider otherwise.
I like to come up with 10–15 headline ideas for every piece I write, then I run some of them through AI to see if it can improve them.
Summarize information.
I use this in two ways. One, when a writing client sends me a long brief to get an offer. I copy/paste the brief in ChatGPT. It highlights the information that’s most important to me at that stage.
That’s how I’m able to give instant & accurate quotes and time frames versus procrastinating and losing an opportunity.
Another way I use this feature is to summarize long how-to instructions when I’m learning more about a new software or platform.
