There’s a question every solopreneur asks, usually while staring at the analytics dashboard or refreshing their inbox:
“When will I succeed?”
I know many creators rush to give you answers. When you post on notes more. When you start selling. When you up your prices.
The truth us, no one knows. Every success story has different timing and reasons behind it. No one can tell you when *you* will succeed.
But I can tell you what always happens before success comes.
Most solopreneurs look at the numbers but success comes in glimpses way before it comes in your dashboard and bank account.
It comes in signals.
A kind reply to your email.
A paid subscriber who decided to pay without being sold to.
A comment that says, “Wow, I love this, it really helped.” Or “This was exactly what I needed.”
A DM that says, “You just put into words what I couldn’t.” Or, “Do you want to write a guest post?”. Or, “Can I interview you?”
A client who recommends you without being asked. Or asks if you can take on more work.
An unprompted great review to your product or book.
These are the signs of success. They always show up before the numbers do—and if you keep going, the numbers always follow.
How I got to 5K (slowly)
I just hit 5,000 subscribers. It’s a big milestone—not because of the number, but because of the trust it represents.
It took me 20 months.
That might sound fast or slow, depending on where you are. Some people got there in a few months. Plenty never did—because they gave up too early.
Me? I kept going. I got here only with content. No freebies, no fake urgency, no shortcuts.
Just consistent work, real conversations, and paying attention to the signals that keep on coming.
I may be the turtle, but I’m still moving.
You’d be surprised how far I can go this way.
You’d be surprised how far *you* can go this way.
Till next time,
Maya
PS. If you loved this, share it—it’s free.
This is gold. It can be tough, but I’ve always found if you execute and trust that you are doing the right things in the right way, good things come to you.
Execution is the key. Don’t think about it. Just do what works and it’ll work.
I’ve shared and stacked. Great little piece.
I love this so much. I love the reminder for persistence, to simply make the choice to keep showing up.
I’m pretty early in my journey, but building methodically with a clear message is incredibly important to me.
I’d love to connect with you sometime if you’re open to it! You’re definitely an inspiration.
