This newsletter is about to become a bit more structured.
If you love the rant, don’t worry; there will be some.
But also, I want you to get more value out of this.
So, let’s dive into the new “system.”
Secret to Success: Quantity VS Quality
Every newsletter I send will give you one SS - Secret to Success - and today’s is about quantity VS quality.
I used to be a die-hard fan of quality. If you’re not going to do it right, don’t do it. Right? Wrong.
Why:
You write more, you become a better writer
You have more reviews, you get more credibility
You have more likes/comments; the algorithm gives you a boost
You post more, there are more entry points for your audience to find you
You write more, it means you can write on more platforms, hence get more eyeballs
You write more, you get more income.
How:
So, how do you write more when you don’t have time/energy/ideas?
Write on your phone—even full-blown articles.
When you get an idea, stop and write it on your phone.
For client work, accept more work with longer delivery times.
Write short stuff. Tweets or short posts on Medium (submit them to The Shortform pub, they only accept articles of 150 words or less).
Write when you’re emotional. When you’re fuming or sad, or worried, the words will just come.
Work in the evenings, even if it’s 20-30 minutes. (If you can do more, do more.)
Repurpose content. Can a part of a successful post be reused as the topic of a new post? Yes!
Peek Behind The Curtain
In the second portion of the newsletter, I will tell you more about how my week/month went.
You’ll learn about my successes, failures, income, regrets, new things I’m trying, and more.
I’ve always found the stories of other creators super inspiring and decided to try & inspire you.
What worked for me last week:
I got two more leads on LinkedIn. One became a paying client.
I write one to two posts per week on LinkedIn. I also comment on posts that make me think. So, nothing serious.
I think a lot of professionals are used to looking people up on LinkedIn. A decent profile and just a little bit of activity goes a long way.
Something new I’m trying:
I’m trying to submit my unfinished novel to Radish, a platform about serialized fiction. They have an application process, and I’m polishing the first 30K words now before I send it.
Do you have a book you haven’t finished? Because you might be able to start selling it now.
My miserable failures:
I failed the Coca-Cola test. Literally.
An agency that works with Coca-Cola was looking for freelance copywriters for a specific campaign. They sent me a test task and didn’t approve my work.
Ouch!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
