My Grandmother left us this morning.Â
I’m not religious, but I believe there’s a force in the Universe we don’t understand yet and that she’s in a better place.Â
And while that’s reassuring, what’s even more reassuring is the fact that I was here.Â
Five years ago, I moved back to my place of birth.Â
Thanks to that, I was here to organize Grandma’s birthday parties. I was here to introduce her to her great-grandchildren. I was here to host big holidays, do all the cooking, and put her at the top of the table.Â
I was here to help mom with her when she needed tending to.Â
And now, I am here to say goodbye.Â
I was able to be here because I have the best job in the world; a job that allows me to choose where, when and how to live my life.Â
And while there are so many thoughts rushing through my head right now, a big one is this:Â
Thank God I became a solopreneur all those years ago.Â
Despite Granny begging me to stay at my job…Â
This is not about me using this to talk about online business or money.Â
What I want to tell you today is to choose the life that will make you happy.
Choose the life that will allow you to prioritize what’s important. Choose it even if your loved ones don’t understand. Trust me, one day, they’ll be grateful you did. Because you’ll be there.Â
And live this beautiful life. If there’s something you’ve been postponing, do it. If there’s something you’ve been dreaming of, reach for it.Â
Thank you for loving me the way you did, grandma. I’ll never forget you.Â
Please accept my condolences. However adult and stoic we are, the passing on of a treasured gem must always be deeply felt. Please be kind to yourself whilst you mourn.
We’re sure you were a good girl, and your grandma was very proud of you and grateful to you. How wonderful that you were with her consistently when she needed you most! What a comfort for you both.
As the years progress and the pain of loss lessens, your memories will become even fonder. That’s a wonderful legacy.
Please accept my kindest thoughts.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Maya. And I totally agree with what you have said here: "Choose the life that will allow you to prioritize what’s important. Choose it even if your loved ones don’t understand. Trust me, one day, they’ll be grateful you did. Because you’ll be there."
Sending love your way.
