Never Feel Bad For Wanting To Make More Money
Or do you feel evil and ungrateful just thinking it?
This installment of One-Person Business Success is free for everyone. I send this email twice every week. If you would also like to receive it, join a community of ambitious solopreneurs today.
Most of us are raised with the notion that money doesn’t buy happiness.
It’s crucial to make people believe that if you want them to work 60-hour weeks for the basics.
Home
Decent car
1-2 vacations per year
Normal retirement
Some savings
Healthcare
Pay off student loans and/or help your kids go to college
For a very long time, it was the only way.
The problem is that many of us still can’t escape this matrix.
Secret to Success: You SHOULD Want More Money (And Want To Make It Your Way)
When I started as a solopreneur, my goal was to make my salary without a boss.
I achieved it in about a year and a half.
I felt like a big shot.
For a long time, even though I knew people made insane money writing online, I couldn’t figure out how.
But the saddest part was I didn’t try to figure it out.
Because “I didn’t want money.” “I had enough.”
Now, I’m kicking myself. I’m more motivated than ever to earn a lot, but I have kids now, and my family depends on me for other things. I’m the mother, you know? I’m needed around here to kiss away the pain, wipe noses, iron school uniforms.
Financial success seems harder now than it was before, but I’m stronger now.
Because I know exactly what I want—I want to make more money.
Why I’m telling you this:
Unless you want a lot of money (and admit it to yourself), you’ll subconsciously limit yourself.
You won’t take the risk. You won’t look for ways. You’ll be okay with what you have.
It’s scaring me to death, this notion of staying where you are. No growth, no drive, no nothing.
How to use it:
Use this secret to success to fuel your courage and drive. You can do so much more than what you think you can do.
Here’s an example.
For years, I didn’t post on social media because:
People who knew me would laugh at me pretending to be an expert. Pff.
What would I even say? The Internet is crowded anyway.
Who knows if I’d even make any money? Only the big influencers do.
I didn’t put myself out there, and I didn’t use some of the most effective distribution channels on Earth.
I do now. You know what changed? I want money more than I care about what others think of me.
If you attempt to make it big, you’re already miles ahead of most.
Make money familiar. Think about your big financial goal. Think about how you can achieve it. Think about how you’d spend the money. Make it a healthy obsession.
It’s okay. Money isn’t evil. Humans are.
Behind The Curtain
Personal success:
I’ve almost doubled my Substack growth over the past few days. I should hit my first 100 subscribers any day now.
They say 0-100 takes the longest (unless you have a big audience someplace else). Then 100 to 1000 is faster. It took me about 4 months to get to (almost) 100, so let’s see.
New thing I’m trying:
I’ve been working on improving my content. The latest thing I’m trying is curating ideas.
Every day, I consume content online until I find 5 ideas I like that are important to my audience. I jot them down and use one or two of them as the foundation for my next pieces of content.
Perhaps the most fun & effective way to generate ideas by far.
Personal failure:
I gained some weight this month. Blah!
I don’t even know how I’m going to lose it. I’m stress-eating a lot lately with my mom’s breast cancer situation (even though everything looks okay for now).
I guess there are different seasons in life, and I’m in this season now. The season of overeating.
I’ll do my best to double down on my healthy habits, but it is what it is. Self-love is a priority over anything else.
If you enjoyed this, you can share it 🔁 or like it ❤️ so that more people on Substack can see it.

I know you can!
