Even though I’ve been a copywriter over the past 11 years and an online writer over the last 5, there are moments when I don’t know what to write.
Yes, I have the frameworks: the structures and marketing know-how; the target market and/or the client’s brief.
But my job as a writer is to take things to the next level. This isn’t just writing to write—I’m not a beginner anymore.
It’s similar to interior design. Anyone can go choose furniture. But when you hire an interior designer, they have to add that wow factor or else why hire them?
Same with writing. Anyone can write—if someone has hired you or if someone is choosing to read your writing as opposed to their social media wall, there has to be something there.
And sometimes, albeit all the knowledge, that something just isn’t coming.
Writers’ block does exist—it just isn’t what you think it is.
Writers’ block is not about not being able to write.
It’s about not being able to write good things—and it’s very real.
If you consistently suffer from writers block, you’ll probably recognise these symptoms:
You’re not proud of your work, even when you do show up and deliver.
You’re not getting meaningful traction online
Reviews and comments are “okay” but not WOW!!
You’re not getting a great conversion rate on your sales pages
Something just doesn’t feel right.
The power of a process.
If you’ve watched the first two lessons of the Wow Copywriting Program (Wow Structures and Wow Stages of Awareness), you’ll already do better than most writers/copywriters.
But to deliver WOW results consistently, only knowledge isn’t enough—you need a process.
A process is a system of simple, repeatable actions you can take that will help you get above average results even when you don’t feel particularly productive or inspired.
It’s important to note that a good process unlocks creativity and improves outcomes. “Just showing up” doesn’t, which is why it’s not a process, it’s a rut.
Ultimately, having a process is a high-leverage point because:
Most writers don’t have processes.
A process makes you both better and faster.
A small adjustment in your process compounds and can lead to massive results over time.
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”—James Clear
What does an effective writing process look like?
An effective writing process could be different for different people, as long as it covers the following basic requirements:
It unlocks creativity
It gives you confidence
It leaves room for mistakes
It offers clarity
It ends with worth you’re proud of
