Nicolas Cole has an idiot/genius concept I love:
When your business thrives, you feel like a genius. You’re so excited, you can’t sleep. You’re consumed by the amazing thing you’re building and the opportunities it brings. You want to do more and more and… (Overwhelm)
When something fails, you feel like an idiot. You question everything, and spin into despair—convinced the moment’s gone, the industry’s saturated, and you’ll never succeed. Again, you can’t sleep. (Overwhelm)
Funny, isn’t it?
You’re neither a genius nor an idiot. It’s just that solopreneurship is a constant rollercoaster of emotions, and above all others, there’s overwhelm.
Overwhelm feels like inescapable chaos.
Inner chaos creates outer chaos. You can’t build up towards a future you want if you can’t even figure out the present.
Because you don’t know which platform to prioritize, you’re inconsistent on all.
Because you don’t charge enough, you say yes to all kinds of clients.
Because you’re not sure what you want, nothing’s a priority.
Because you’ve never gotten a client so big, you work yourself to the ground to prove you deserve it.
We’ll fix this by the end of this newsletter.
The 3 reasons why overwhelm happens.
Once you figure out the reason behind your overwhelm, its walls will crack.
Here are the 3 reasons why overwhelm happens.
Because you want to do/learn/achieve things faster. You don’t give yourself the time.
Because you’re postponing an important decision (or a few). Not deciding keeps you spinning.
Because you lack the confidence & awareness (the two are connected) to act on what should be done.
There may be more than one reason for your overwhelm, but there is a primary one for sure. Define yours and start there.

This research shows unrealistic deadlines are among the top reasons for feeling overwhelmed.
There are two ways to approach this type of overwhelm.
