Iâve built my 6-figure business with one skill only: writing.Â
No ads. No video editing. No complicated funnels. No social media strategies.Â
Just writing.Â
That one skill, I cultivated as if I was tending a garden.Â
I was out there in the heat, sweaty and muddy. Every day, digging, pulling weeds, giving it all I got.Â
(Let me tell you, there was a lot that needed fixing in that garden.)
Some days, Iâd find dead plants. Some days, my words did nothing for my readers.Â
It takes a while to figure it out.Â
But when you doâŚÂ
You get to make $230K+ on Fiverr.Â
You get to attract copywriting clients worth $10K+ per order.Â
You get to have $1000+ months on Medium.Â
You get to sell products on Gumroad.Â
You get to attract thousands of Substack subscribers. (closing in on 1000 this week đ)
You get to build a high-profit, sustainable business you love.Â
If you already know your audience, and you hang out where they hang outâââitâs time to learn how to write to make them LOVE you.Â
In short, how to write with charisma.Â
Iâve done the research for you and according to this Fortune 500 charisma coach, here are the three key elements of charisma.Â
Presence. When someone is giving you their focused attention.Â
Power. High-power charisma is also called authority charisma.Â
Warmth. When we first meet someone, we instinctively assess whether that person is a potential friend or foe.Â
âWhen you meet a charismatic person, you get the impression that they have a lot of power and they like you a lot.ââââOlivia Fox Cabane, Fortune 500 Charisma CoachÂ
So far, so clear. Right?Â
But how do the key elements of charisma translate into writing?Â
Read on to find out.Â
How to write with charisma
Presence.Â
When writing, presence translates into:Â
Deep work. Remove all distractions and focus on the writing. Laser focus unlocks parts of the brain you canât otherwise engage.Â
Research. If you want to make your audience smarter, you have to work on becoming smarter. Research adds value by offering your readers curated information they wouldnât find by themselves.Â
Edit. All successful writers edit their writing 2â3 times before publishing it. The least you can do is: shorten it, make it clear, and add visuals. You can add two types of visuals: visual descriptions or media. Example: the way I sneaked in a garden metaphor at the beginning of this post.
Power.Â
When writing, power translates into:Â
Credibility. What did you do/achieve so you have the credibility to write about your topic? It doesnât have to be something amazing: even a small personal win will do. Whatever youâve got thatâs relevant, share it. This is not the moment to be shy.Â
Confidence. The screen canât hide you. Your self-doubt shows. When youâre writing with confidence, it shows, too. You use your unique voice, you say things directly, you evoke respect. Start your writing sessions with positive self-talk, do a few stretching exercises and see how that affects you.Â
The right words. You can see what words evoke what emotions in this useful article. When projecting power, try to make people feel safe and satisfied. You can find the right words for that in the article.Â
Warmth.Â
When writing, warmth translates into:Â
Give them what they care about. This article couldâve been a boring writing lesson. Instead, I told you the story of how I became a 6-figure solopreneur using just one skill: writing. You care about making money, right?Â
Write as you speak. Just sound like yourself, please. Use contractions (youâre instead of you are), words of expression (words like whoa, ooh, damn), and short sentences. Speak to a friend, in a natural tone. If you wouldnât say it out loud, donât write it.Â
The right words. Again, refer to this article and look for the words that trigger happiness and inspiration.Â
More âyouâ, less âIâ. Whatever youâre writing, write it for your readers. In fact, imagine you talk to just one of your readers. Each person in your audience consumes your content alone, right? If you speak to him or her directly, youâd be building a lasting connection.Â
