Yes, you have what it takes to start your one-person business NOW.
Here are your easy first 3 steps.
There are many doers out there who don’t need this advice. If it comes naturally to you to throw yourself into new adventures, you’ve probably already started.
Most of us procrastinate, though. And we dress up procrastination real nice, too: we have jobs, we have kids, we don’t have the energy, and we don’t know how. So we don’t, period.
If you’re reading this, it means you’ve subscribed to the One-Person Business Success newsletter, and that’s a great first step.
Still, you could be a subscriber for years and never do anything to build your business.
So, if you’re brand new and still a little confused about this but also hopeful and motivated, here are a few things I want you to do:
Think about what you want to do. Really think about it: would you like to be a coach, a blogger, a copywriter, a novelist, an online course creator, a social media influencer, or a freelancer? Do you know all your options? Have you narrowed it down at all? What does your body tell you when you consider your options? Which option feels like HELL YES?
Find people who do it. If you’re in the USA or Canada, or most of the Western world, it’s easy to go to conferences, find Meet-Up groups, and put yourself in proximity with success. If you’re not, find these people on Medium.com, Substack, IG, or Twitter and follow them. Learn from them, and see what they do.
Set the proper priority right now: build that e-mail list. The huge following doesn’t matter without the e-mail list. Great clients don’t count without the e-mail list. You CANNOT be a successful one-person business long term without an e-mail list. Everything else comes and goes. Your e-mail list is where the magic happens. It takes time to build one, so please keep this as a top-of-mind goal at all times, even now, before you start. If you don’t know how e-mail marketing works, start reading about it, consider platforms, choose one, and open an account. Look around. E-mail marketing is a skill you can begin to develop instantly.
Can you find a bit of time for these first three steps? Have you done this already? Is there something that bothers you?
Don’t forget you can ask me any questions by responding to this post/e-mail, and I’ll reply as soon as possible.
Can’t wait for you to shine!

Hey Maya, thx for these first tips! Will be thinking about n°1 some more this afternoon & I'll remember to look out for people who are living more or less the lifestyle I would love to build. N° 3 is one I've heard before so many times but am struggling with as it seems like yet another task on the endless list of to do's and then I ask myself: what if I don't write newsletters, then it's for nothing. :s
